Introduction

The Bihari Gipsy Orchestra was founded in 2005 in Debrecen by young, educated musicians living in or coming from Hajdú-Bihar. Singers and folk dancers also joined the orchestra; hence, they can perform on several genres. The orchestra became a cultural association in 2006. The main mission of the association is to cherish and spread Hungarian Gipsy music, the Hungarian song and folk music, and to perform classical music with special Gipsy orchestration. Good Gipsy music should be present in restaurants and concert halls, because this musical genre is an elemental part of Hungarian culture. The orchestra also performs as a concert orchestra with 15-20 musicians. Gipsy music has always had a great effect on classical composers. Naturally, the repertoire of the orchestra includes classical pieces from great composers. The smaller band consists of five people. The classic gipsy band featuring violin, viola, double bass, cimbalom and clarinet have broadened their repertoire with Hungarian songs, Gipsy folk songs, classics, Russian ballads, songs from the Balkan, musicals, international songs and operettas.
